"This story follows a polar bear mother and her cubs on the shifting sea ice off Baffin Island. After months inside a wind-packed snow hollow, the cubs emerge small, unsteady, and fully dependent on their mother to navigate a world of cold light, wind-shaped slopes, pressure ridges, and fractured ice. The Arctic is not simply a backdrop, it’s the condition of life. The den, ledges, drifts, and sea ice shape what’s possible. As sea ice forms later and breaks up earlier, the spring window that supports emergence, travel, and hunting becomes less certain. At its heart, this work, created during a month of patient observation with Inuit guidance, is about family: warmth carried through cold."

"In Southern California, wildfires are not only about flames—they are also about wind. Each year, the Santa Ana winds arrive hot and dry, pulling moisture from the land and turning brush into fuel. Under these conditions, the wind pushes fire fast, carrying embers over roads and into neighborhoods. In the January 2025 Palisades Fire, winds spread the fire quickly with smoke moving sideways, embers flying like orange rain, and the fire rapidly changing direction. In the middle of that chaos are the firefighters—while others evacuate, they move closer. Their work is fast, physical, and relentless—in conditions where I could barely stand, see, or breathe. I hope people remember “The Ones Who Stay”—those who step in when everything is falling apart."

"Deep inside the Sundarbans Mangrove Forest, I photographed a group of women honey collectors known locally as “tiger widows.” Their husbands were killed by tigers while working in the forest. We traveled for hours by boat through remote tidal rivers before walking through waist-deep muddy water inside dense mangroves. Collectors face threats from tigers, snakes, crocodiles, and even pirates. Covering their faces against bee stings, they search for honeycombs high in the trees. The region’s cyclones and rising sea levels have flooded homes, ruined crops, and contaminated drinking water. Their lives reflect a harsh truth: those who contribute least to climate change often suffer the most."

"This story tracks the work connected with studying the rare European wildcat in the Czech Republic. I set up custom-made DSLR camera traps near the marking spots (where cats communicate with each other) as part of the wildcat monitoring program in the remote Doupov mountains. Almost indistinguishable from domestic cats, these stealthy, solitary, and nocturnal cats are perfectly camouflaged in their natural environment and have been overlooked for many years. Telltale marks on the tail and body help identify this species native to the European forests."
